polydioxanone (PDO) is a safe raw material that has been used for orthopedic and cardiovascular surgery for wound closure. As a safe raw material that is completely absorbed by the body through hydrolysis, there is minimal tissue reaction and tissue trauma Associated with the thread material itself.
Mint PDO has over 6 years of clinical and safety research behind their product. They have also received two FDA clearances.
PDO threads are inserted with local anesthesia, usually lidocaine, which is injected superficially into the tissue. The threads have tiny barbs facing different directions allowing them to grab onto the underlying tissue below the skin surface. The patient is typically marked prior to insertion where the greatest lift can be achieved. This will help to guide placement of the barbed threads. The goal of thread lifting is to acheive a natural and youthful look by displacing tissue to acheive a more desired aesthetic appearance.
PDO can also help promote the stimulation of collagen and neovascularization, which helps to improve skin elasticity, texture, fine lines, and volume of tissue.
How long is the procedure/recovery…
The procedure itself usually takes about an hour to an hour and a half. It takes about 2-3 weeks for the threads to completely settle post procedure. pre-treatment and post-treatment care is discussed at consultation appointment.
How long do PDO threads last..
The average last of the treatment is one year. As the PDO material metabolizes it leaves behind collagen in its place, this is a specific benefit to the threads procedure.

The main goal of smooth threads is collagen stimulation and skin tightening. Commonly treated areas are under the chin, glabellar (11 lines), tear troughs, jawline, and smile lines. The procedure is relatively painless, topical numbing cream is used prior to thread insertion. Treatment is typically completed every 3-4 months.
